Its not working and i think maybe its something to do with the lack of space on my hard drive

probably not. If you're burning it for an audio dvd (rather than data), it will need to temporarily create the entire cd on your hard drive before burning it to the actual disc. A full CD is 700MB.

I agree with UB, and in any case, I think you need a bigger drive just for day to day use!
