Does anyone know why some of the songs in my itunes library have a grey exclaimation mark next to them?

I daren't update my itunes in case it wipes them or something.

im pretty sure this means that these songs cannot be found...basically the itunes library just looks in the same file location for the song as when u put it in there....if you have moved the location of the song or changed the name that itunes is going to hit a deadend.

all youve got to do is delete these songs and then add them again with the changes that you have made to them.
also, dont worry about plugging in the ipod with these in the library it wont harm your ipod....

Hi, thank you for your post. I'm still confused though as I haven't done anything to these particular songs (and there is a lot of them), it just seems to have randomly picked on them!
Itunes is rubbish. It did that to me last week for no reason whatsoever - all was fine before and I didn't move or rename anything.

If you try to play the songs it will tell you that it can't find them and you have to locate them manually. It will then open up the directory in which it is stored!!

Itunes even did this with a podcast it automatically downloaded and then could not find it on the same day!
