Do I Need iPod Updater?

I have a 30gb ipod and I have XP home and everything works fine and thank god I've never had a problem but I've never used the ipod updater so do I need it and what does it do?

It's mainly just if you have problems. If for some reason something bad happens and your iPod stops working, iPod updater can usually fix the problem.
