"they don't work" is a very ambiguous statement... can you give precise details i.e. what error messages do you get? the most common problem with attachments in emails is that they are associated with an application that the user does not have on his/her system. for example someone sends you an email with a Zip file attached (.zip) but you don't have winzip on your machine therefore the zip file cannot be opened and you get an error message saying "The file [filename.ext] does not have a program associated with it......". Is this the problem?
Could it be that the links are too long to fit on a single line of the screen? If this is the case they carry on to the next line, but the email software only takes the first line and ignores the rest then you will get an incomplete link. If you select the whole link (all lines) You can cut and paste the whole link into the address bar of your browser.

how ironic- my email telling me i had an answer was a link- that i couldnt access!!! my pointer indicates a live link by changing from a pointer in to a hand but when i click over the link- nothing happens? any other ideas?
I think manfredini has it -- the email link to an answer on this site starts with http... etc etc and ends with question_id=xxxx ... if the link has broken across more than one line you may need to copy and paste the entire address into your browser in order to access the correct page. And that could be what's happening elsewhere!
