My home PC has packed up so I have this morning loaded iTunes onto my work PC, plugged in my iPod and managed to wipe all my songs, and can't find them anywhere on iTunes.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Your music will all be on your home PC.
flip-flop, when you installed itunes on your work pc you were prompted with a message telling you that your ipod was associated with another library would you like to replace it with the new library.....you clicked yes but you should have clicked no......one ipod cannot be associated with two different libraries (two computers). The library on your broken pc is where your music is/was, if that computer is broken for good then you have to reload all your songs back onto your ipod via your work pc, but remember when you get a new PC at home you cannot plug your ipod into it or you will erase all your songs again.
