Need some more detail as to your email program there before a definate answer can be given.

Are you refering to your Hotmail / Yahoo / Gmail account for example, or a POP/IMAP account from your ISP for which you use Outlook or Lotus Notes for example to read your emails?

The quick answer is there are programs available to check all these types of accounts if you look hard enough, yes.

You could use Incredimail, there are loads of different notifiers you can use. You don't have to be logged on either.
