I have an unwanted home page on my computer which appears every time I open Internet Explorer. It has obviously been downloaded on the back of something else....the page is called "safetyuptodate" and it tells me my computer has potentially unwanted viruses and I should be buying their "spyware" softward. However hard I try I cannot get rid of this page and it overrides every attempt to change the default. If anyone else has had this problem and has managed to solve it I would be delighted to hear from you!!!

If you do a search in Google for safetyuptodate you will find you are not alone.

This also looks very cimplicated to get rid of.

There are a number of places that give you instructions so find a recent one and follow them.

Seems you might need to doanload something called SmitFraudFix

Here are some web sites with instructions of how to remove virus.

For Anne, and anyone else reading this, make sure your computer is protected.

The 4 software products below are all free (or at least produce free versions) and you should run with them ALL on your PC.

1) AVG anti-virus

2) Zone Alarm firewall

3) Adaware spyware checker

4) WinPatrol

These are all good, but Winpatrol may have helped in your case.

WinPatrol monitors your PC all the time. It tells you if someone is trying to install a new program (and you can say yes or no) and it also tells you if someone is trying to change your home page (and you can also say yes or no).
