It depends on the software program you are using but basically you open the image you want and then look in the tool bar for something like "image" if you click this and open the drop down menu you may see "resize" as an option. Once you open this box you can do it one of two ways. Either reduce the dpi (it may well be saved as 180) to around 72 (or lower for sending via the web) or reduce the pixel count for the height and width. Both will reduce the overall size of the image.

As I've said it all depends on your image management system as to what you can do and how you go about it.

There will also be some way of automatically compressing the file for sending over the 'tinternet, but again will depend on what OS you have. The benefit of this is that the recipient will have (once decompressed) a file which is more or less the same size as your original files.

That's free, and can resize your pictures for you too.

There is an image resizer available from windows (called a power toy). It does get integrated into the system though, but this means when you right click on the file icon you can choose 'resize image' as an option. Very easy to use.

Download it here

just right click the file, open with 'Paint' and click on 'Image' at the top and select stretch/skew. change the stretch figures to 50 and it will reduce the size of the picture by 50% and the file size to about 30% of what it was.

No need to download anything!

I use this one. It is also very good for image resizing:
