Does anyone know how to improve the ranking on search engines (such as Google)? My web site is listed with them but I would like it to appear in the top 40 results at least.

There are also a pieces of software (their name escapes me) that go round putting your meta tags in stuff or attracting the spiders or something. I'm not being very helpful am I? I'll post when I remember it.
Well, my site is number one in the rankings list, and has been for some time, so I have got some ideas.

But if everyone knew what to do then .....

So I'm not giving away my knowledge for free, but if anyone wants to take a couple of hours consultancy, contact me.

I know the answer but I'm not telling you. What kind of response is that?
Mine gets listed quite high in google and if I knew why you'd be welcome to the information free. I have an idea that, as stated in the link above, one of the criteria is based on links from other sites. One way to get these is to post on forums with similar topic as your site and use a link to your site in your signature (doesn't work here though). I think another is to have a site whose content isn't covered by thousands of other sites as well. I used this service as well: http://www.addpro.com/ and that seemed to work very well. Don't know if any of these will help.
