I have a number of images on my computer with file type .bmp which takes up a lot of memory. Can someone please tell me step by step how I can change the to JPEG? I will be eternally grateful.

Thanks

I import pictures into Paint and then click Save As. This gives me a prompt to change them to jpg.

it might work with bmp too.

Good luck

There are programs you can get.

This site http://www.download.com/ lists programs for all sorts of applications, just search under images or whatever it's called to see what is available. Many you have to pay for but some are free or have a free trial. I have one called ifranview which does what you want.

IrfanView is free and will "batch convert" the files for you, ie you choose or drag the files you want converted, choose where you want the new files put (you can also rename them and perform other functions), press "start" and it does the lot in one fell swoop.
I second LeMarchand's suggestion. Irfanview is a great little program for doing this sort of thing.
Reaconvertor will convert most files to any format. They do a free, if somewhat restricted, version at http://tinyurl.com/rdcr3
