Technically an xvid (or Divx) file is an avi. I am guessing your asking because these will not play on your dvd player?

The soltions(s) could be to buy an xvid compatible dvd player (under 40, I use Yamada) to save the bother of converting them, or run them through a programme like Tmpeg to covert them to standard DVD readable Mpeg 2 files. Be aware though, that depending on your CPU power, this can be a long process.

I may have guessed your requirements incorrectly, let me know more details.

...or is it that the file won't play on your computer? In which case all you need to do is to d/l and install the xvid codec.
