Does anyone have any recommendations for genealogy software? I've been happily using GenoPro 1.9, but it has serious drawbacks when it comes to using it for large numbers of people, or for lots of second marriages, & when it comes to printing off large family tree 'genograms'. I've been waiting ages for GenoPro to bring out their improved version 2.0, (& no launch date in site) & I would love to hear what software other family historians use to draw family trees.

I have used cosmi Family Ancestry with a reasonable amount of sucess. I hope this helps
I've used Family Tree Maker in the past and was reasonably happy with it. Pros - easy to use, customisable to a degreee, stores large amounts of data, latest version will export to PDF file for sharing. Cons - not cheap, very 'American'.
When I did some research with a view to replacing it, there wasn't much difference between the main names' offerings. I did find one package that would export to Excel which I thought would be helpful for research. There are quite a few these days and some of the software websites will allow demo downloads for evaluation.
Update - just bought Custodian II as a prezzy for someone starting out and wish I had it when I started. Not a tree software but a database for storing all your source info (census, certificates, family, etc.). It has an import/export facility to various file formats (Word, Excel) which I reckon is brilliant for research.
Also bought myself Family Historian as a Family Tree package rather than upgrade the current FTM. These weren't cheap (49 a throw, although Custodian II has a download shareware version I believe) but they are both written by and for UK researchers which I figured was better from my previous experience.
Bon Chance!
Cant you just use the damn paper and pencil?
