Hello all, please help. I had a laptop delivered this morning. Turned it on and the screen was very dark could only just see the icons. I put this down to the laptop being cold so left it. But tried again and the screen is still so dark. I of course have tried changing the resolutions and wallpaper but its no good????

Firstly - have you tried it connected to the mains power?

My laptop is also dark on startup if it's running off the battery - it's supposed to be power saving.

Find out high to adjust the brightness - with mine I have to press down the FN button and the brightness button.

I hope your problem is a simple.

Thanks so much for your response, have tried that, not helped. It seems as though the back light has gone or something? Maybe the postman dropped it.
you can ajust the screen brightness. go into the desk top and adjust the gamma settings.

Have tried that x
given you've tried everything else, maybe it is just faulty. return it, it's not your fault. get a replacement.
Have you tried to adjust the brightness with the keyboard keys? Fn and the 'sun' symbol - simple I know, but some people don't know that method (likewise for volume).

Yes have tried that. From doing much research it sounds like the inverter maybe faulty, but as this laptop is second hand bought off ebay, what can i do because the lady i bought it off is blaming the postman??

a) Has the seller got any iffy feedback?
b) Surely it was sent insured?

The seller has only got 13 feedback, but all good,

it was sent special delivery from royal mail, do i have to wait for her to claim and get the money back then, or do you think she should refund me now?

try this site might help

Didn't realise it was second-hand - best of luck!
Special Delivery offers compensation up to 2500 ( http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content3?catId=400024 &mediaId=400025 ). I personally feel that she should refund you the money and then make her claim, however this may not be what the law stipulates.

I strongly suspect that if the laptop was securely packed that it was faulty to begin with, but that's just me!
