New monitor causing dvd playback problems - please help

I cracked the screen on my laptop last week and now have it plugged into an ilyama 19" monitor that i bought for �22 off ebay. The monitor works fine but i can no longer view dvds on realplayer or wm player (both version 10) why has a new monitor caused this to happen? and how can i solve it - please help

Is there a key on your keyboard with a TV/monitor symbol on it? Usually pressing Fn and this key will cycle through the various output possibilities (check your laptop manual as well).
