IS there a limit to the amount of lines you can insert into a standard TXT file?

no, although when you get into the millions/billions and beyond, it starts to get a bit slow and unresposive to edit.
depends what file system you run. if you use FAT32 with windows for example, you're limited to 4GB per file. This includes .txt files.
It will also depend on how you're inserting them. Some editors can only deal with a limited files size, regardless of operating system constraints.
