If your taking the jump to month charge ISP then Broadband would be good (although the prices are higher than dial-up - NTL, Freeserve, BT etc). All the ISP's are fairly similar, but a good place to check them out is....www.ispreview.co.uk. Hope this helps!
I used to be with freeserve until they booted me off for no apparent reason one day (oh ok they weren't billing me correctly so i was accidently getting half price connection) but now use plus net which for 8.99 per month offers upto 20 hours a week anytime uninterupted (they do offer an anytime free service for more) and if you go over your 20 hours no extra charge, but if you do it often they ask you to upgrade your account, unlimited email addresses, your own .co.uk domain name (free) upto 250MB webspace and a host of other features. I have never had a problem with connection in 10 months and rate them very highly so have a look at www.plus.net (I believe they also own force 9 which offers the same range of services)
I dumped Freeserve for infecting my registry with trash which took me Ages to get rid of. How rude. I now get Onetel Anytime for 13.99 per month and it's non-intrusive and doesn't get overloaded or break down hardly at all. And that's cheaper than Freeserve too. However, plus.net sounds tempting at 8.99 for 20 hours. (That's cheaper than a TV licence...) Does plus.net require a credit card or direct debit?
plusnet takes credit/debit cards and also direct debit. If you deceide to sign up then I can get a discount for refering you. I think you need to put details of who refered you when you register, in here put broccoli.plus.com and I should get a discount... cheers
Okay, Obo.
You could try ntl. They charge 15 per month, but this includes the first 15-worth of phone calls, so in simple terms, if your phone bill is greater than 15 your internet connection is free.
I have just joined virgin and have no complaints, its the best one i have had so far and is one of the cheapeat at 13.49 a month
Obo's recommendation of PlusNet is your best bet. Particularly if you want to use advanced features like domain names and cgi (set up internet forums very easily). The referral scheme is a great extra so that if your friends sign up to you can subsidise you subcription. www.plus.net
