hard disk space missing

i know for certain that my ibm thinkpad has 40 gb hard drive but some partitions have been deleted and now i can only find 5 gb. how do i recover the other 35 gb. hope someone can help me . im running win xp prof

Hi kikimon, I had a similar problem (sort of anyway) and I can help you get started. Right-click on My Computer, then click Manage. Then, on the window that opens, under Storage, click on Disk Management.


From there you can sort the problem out - refer to the Help file. Look under Disk Management, then How to..., then Manage Disks. I'm sure you can take it from there.

Hi Snook, right i will try that in about half hour as im just sorting something out on my own pc, but it looks promising. i will let you know how i get on, thanks for the advice.

how much hard drive space was allocated to your windows partition before you deleted the other partitions? when you deleted the partitions did you re-format them to fat32 or ntfs and merge them with your windows partition? what you may have done is delete the partitions but just left the space as unused. its not as simople as just deleting them.

hi boobsque, i am not sure what i did but i managed to find the other space on my pc and got it working again. so from now on i keep my hands of that bit of the pc. thanks for you reply
