dial-up conection dialogue

i have recently had to re-install my system including my internet connection isp software and internet explorer 6-previously when i clicked my explorer desk top icon i got the dial-up connection window with save password and connect automatically checked and my password already entered--now i find these options are greyed out and i am having to enter my password every time--how do i fix this please?

I must admit I'm no expert, but if I were you I'd click "My Computer", then "Control "Box", "Internet Connections" then click the Connections Tab and clicking Settings and check to see if your details are located in the relevant boxes.

thanks StuDapples--i have gone that route--when i get to settings/dial up settings it has my user name but not password--if i enter my password it does not retain it--when i close that window and reopen it the password box is blank again
This is a very well known (and irritating) problem particularly with W95/W98. It's a bit too involved to explain the solution but you'll find lots to read on Microsoft's support site (http://www.eu.microsoft.com/default.asp - click on knowledge base in support).

thank u all who replied to this--esp moonacre--the 2 links u suggested provided the answer--there seem to be so many causes mine was probably only one--in this case i went to cntrl panel/network and installed client for microsoft network--now it works ok
