I'm looking at buying a digital camera, probably a Canon or an Olympus in the 150 region. Does anyone have a model to recommend? Do you know where the best place is to buy digital cameras in terms of after care and warranty?

Canon and Olympus are both 'quality' brands but compared with some of the opposition, they can be pricey.

With your budget of approximately 150, I'd be looking at something like the Kodak Z740. With over 5 megapixels and, far more importantly, a decent (10x) optical zoom, it's got to be a contender. It's 158.70 (with free p&p) from Amazon. See here for details and reviews:

(In case you're wondering, my current digital camera is a Minolta - which I love. My previous digital camera was an Olympus - which I hated).

In terms of warranty, as long as you buy from a reputable retailer - and I count Amazon as a reputable retailer - you're covered by the 'six year rule' which basically means that the camera should function properly for 6 years from the date of purchase or the retailer will be liable to pay for the repair.

I've got a Canon Ixus 400 which I LOVE! I would recommend it to anyone. We got it from Amazon but it's slightly over your budget. Have a look at what they've got but make sure you know what you want from your camera. We chose the Ixus because it does video with sound as well as take good photos.

Mine is an Olympus C-767 UZ and was bought from Amazon a year ago.

I chose this because it has the 10x optical zoom I needed but....if it's after care you need then I would definitely choose Jessops. They will give you the very best advice on what model is right for you at the right price... and are on hand if anything should go wrong. All my phographic equipment (and hubby's) has come from them and the only reason I didn't buy my latest digital there is that the wait was 2 weeks - and I couldn't wait!

when i was buying a camera my friend warned me off sony and olympus, this is because the memory cards are specialist and can be more expensive all other cameras take the same cards, SD cards, so its more useful to get them, I have a canon at the moment which is good, but im getting a casio exilim s500 soon which is about 200 pounds but amazingly thin.
Try Asda's. Pentax Optio S50, 5megapixels, around 160. Pentax is a very reliable company.
