What is the most pixel camera available?

What is the highest number of pixels camara's on the market today have?

The last i heard Minlota had brought a 8 mega pixel camera out on the market.

nikon do a 12.4 million, hasselblad do a 22 million. but these (and others) are really commercial use cameras.

If you want to buy one, there isn't a simple answer! There is a problem because there are different way to build an imaging chip. If you just want a family camera that you would never question the quality of when enlarged to, lets say 10x8" then you really don't need to go further than 5 or 6 million....but 5 or 6 million from a reputable brand!!!! The number of pixels does not mean a better image (it's all about design). When i used to sell this stuff (left jessops last september) i used to try to make the point that if you compare tv's in a shop you will see that some pictures are better than others....why? design, of course! but all those tv's have 625 lines!

Until very recently a sold these things and i stopped at 5 million Canon, quite simply because the images looked as good as my film photos at 10x8" (the biggest i ever do) so what is the point in going further? It a bit like buying a car that is capable of 200mph!
