thanks for telling me about Amanda Owens 3 books, I’m immersed in the first one , I had only one on my kindle but didn’t bother reading it till you were telling us about them , I love the tv series but the book is an in depth window to the family warts and all , also places she talks about are quite familiar to me being a Northerner ( it was lovely sitting outside today reading )

OH is also a fan, Bobbi. I bought him the 1st book for Christmas - so I'm OK for another 2. :) Raising all those children properly i.m.o.. A very elderly lady I know (chair of W.I. etc.) met her at a W.I.'do' some years ago and tutted about the ragged children. Well, Amanda is a clever woman and now those kids have all sorts of stuff like wetsuits. My friend admits that she has done brilliantly. It's a hard area up there. Have you been to Tan Hill House? It was good food lasttime I was there.

Hi Jourdain, yes I’ve been to that pub, it’s lovely and homely ,Amanda is a very astute lady , the books reveal the real them without the cameras , I’m loving reading it

Jourdain, Amandas children were never 'raggy'. Owen was and is a very sucessful farmer before he met Amanda -some of his tups selling for £20,000. They have never been poor or ragged in their lives -and I should know.........

Bobbi: Glad you are enjoying the books. I was talking with a neighbour the other day, laughing that we could all write a book up here all the things that go on. I don't like the TV programme as I don't think its 'real', but her books are (up to a certain extent) -a bit like James Herriot, true in principle with a few embellishments for effect!

APG I didn't make the comment. I quoted an elderly lady who did and has altered her opinion.

Jourdain, I never said you made the comment. I was letting you know that the Owens have never been hard pushed for money.

Amanda never went to our(her) local WI and does not take her children to 'WI 'do's when shes speaking. I suggest your 'elderly lady' was making thing up.

While you are here the pub you refer to is The Tan Hill INN, not Tan Hill HOUSE.
