What's better 2x512 MB DDR or 1x1024 MB DDR?

Theoretically one stick is better, as it allows you more room for future upgrades. It will be fractions of seconds faster as the computer doesnt need to search 2 sticks only one, but you wouldn't notice.

..If you already have a 512 stick then the cost certainly be noticeable though.....if you don't think you will ever want to upgrade to even more RAM then get another 512 would be my advice............
Commoner is right - on traditional motherboards, 1 stick would be better.

If, on the other hand, you have a dual channel motherboard, 2 x 512 sticks would be better than 1 x 1024 stick.

Mother board: ASRock K7VT4A+. it doesn't support dual channel, so i guess 1x1024 it will be
LOL......ASRock K7VT4A+ should take 2GB so why not go the whole hog..........go on it's Christmas....commoner <G>

pc3200 @400MHz is just 1GB, pc2700 is 2GB
