I wonder how many angry calls Morrisons had over their non-delivery.
One of my relatives is an Argos delivery man and he has had to drive through some awful snowy conditions to deliver a sheepskin rug or something. It's made me think a bit more about the conditions that these people work under and the necessity of the orders being delivered.

Food, yes. That tends to be localised but perhaps people need to think twice about what they really do need. Home delivery has become a way of life and I suspect there are more white delivery vans on the road than ever before.

He was following his sat nav apparently. Its a ford on the river Wear at Stanhope. There is a bridge further along, but locals with 4x4 will use it to cut around a mile off the journey, but not when the river is up like it is at the moment.

You don't need satnavs for navigational errors though. I used to live in Ecclesfield (on the edge of Sheffield), which is just 5 miles from Wentworth Woodhouse (on the edge of Rotherham). The guy who ran the local convenience store got fed up with having to explain to numerous drivers, who called in to asked him for directions, that they were over 170 miles away from their intended destination. i.e. Wentworth Golf Club ;-)

We drove to see a friend in Cambridgeshire a couple of years ago, using our satnav and couldn't find the place at all. A phone call brought an apology: yes, the street address is correct but the village is not.

At least they've got gates there, APG. I was driving a delivery van (for a Ford main dealer) some years back when I had to cross a ford in Essex. It didn't look too bad so, like the Morrison's driver, I started to drive through it. I managed to get to the other side but, having started out on the left side of the road, I was then on the right because the force of the water had pushed the van to one side. (I made a mental note to choose a different route in future!)
