These are the phones that I have.
I've never had an answerphone before and I thought that when someone leaves a message, it would give their number and what time and day they called, but it doesn't.
When the green light is flashing and I press it, it goes straight to the message which could be, 'Hi, it's me, call me back when you get this.' Sometimes I don't recognise who it is, so I wondered if there is a way of setting the answerphone so it gives the date and time that the person called?
I have the correct info on the handsets, date and time.TIA.

The oblong rocker-switch above the number pad says "calls" on it; try that.

Sorry, meant to say date, time and number of the person who called.
I have an earlier version of this phone, if I use the calls button I can scroll through calls received/made with number and time. You would probably recognise your caller from this.
The calls history on your phone should tell you that.
The blurb says it has a call log. I assume this is a list of the numbers which have called you, along with the time the call was made. Can you not tie this up with the answerphone message?

Can you tell me which is the one you call the calls button, how do I find the call history and how do I access the call log?
I've never had this type of phone before or an answer machine, so I do need for you to tell me in more detail how to do these things. Thanks.

Incidentally, if you can set your own message, ask people to give their name and number if they leave a message.

bhg481 Thank you, that is exactly what I wanted to know.
If you are very lucky, depending on your phone, it might be that if you go through the call-log it might put an icon on the display against any calls which have an unread message. The manual might tell you, if one came with the phone.
Do not play the messages using the base station; use a handset instead.

"Playing messages using the handset.

If you’ve got caller display, the number of the caller and the date and time they left the message will be shown on the screen."

A good one is -

"Hi, we're not in right now, if you think it's important, leave your name and number and a message, and if we think it's important, we'll call you back."

Andy, very good. If I left a message like that, people would think they have the wrong number!
I know I can get the info you suggested using the handset, but to get messages that way, I thought I had to dial 1571 and the phone company have started charging for that, so this is why I now use the answerphone.
You do not dial 1571 to retrieve messages from the answerphone.

You press [Menu/tick] button
Press [Phonebook/down] rocker to get to Answ Machine
Press [tick] - Play will show on screen
Press [tick] - messages will play
