I have just taken delivery of my new phone SamsungA20e every time I go to make a call it comes up with not connected to a network?,it came with a Vodafone Nano Sim card which I HAVE to use,my old SIM card does not fit.
I would appreciate any help please as I am not techie minded and the instructions are a bit vague to me.

If your old sim is bigger cut it to fit, not too difficult. Do you have any type of contract with Vodaphone
Is the Sim inserted correctly? Make sure airplane mode hasn't been turned on.
I bought an A20e a week ago - it's a great phone for the money.
But, my original SIM was a micro, and the A20e takes a nano.
Then found out that if you remove the plastic surround on the micro SIM, it becomes a nano!

have you registered the new sim card via vodafone,
you dont have to register a sim card. if you want to get more credit by using a top up voucher, I've not registered one of mine, i keep in car for emergencies and no problem making calls
(drug dealers never register their cards they buy at shop counters)
derek-33, your probably correct, i was originally with orange, then i think ee took over ?, i moved to ee, but wayback i remember i had to ring them to turn on the sim at there end, long time ago nokia 3310
but i guess times have changed.
No you are correct fender, I thought it had stopped but with some suppliers, they send the sim out but then you have to call them to get it activated.
I did it not long ago with one of our work phones, think that was with 3 mobile thoug, unsure about Vodaphone.

Chelle's link seems to have got a problem. (I receive the same garbled rubbish when I tried to get there via Google). However this link says that it can take up to 24 hours for a new SIM to self-activate (although it's usually much quicker):

Your phone accepts two nano-SIMs. Have you tried your one in both slots?
A further thought:
Irrespective of whether there's a need to register a SIM, per se, Vodafone need to know that they're getting paid for the call. So if it's a PAYG SIM there needs to be some credit on it. If it's a contract SIM the phone number on the SIM needs to be linked to an account.

Have you simply ordered a phone which comes with a SIM (in which case it will have a different number to your previous phone) or have you specifically ordered the phone as an upgrade on an existing Vodafone contract?

Even if it's the latter, the SIM which came with it almost certainly won't have the same number as the SIM in your old phone because there should never be two SIMs with the same number. You'll need to contact Vodafone to get the number transferred from your old SIM to your new one.

Try calling 191 from your new phone. If you get through to a Vodafone adviser you'll know that your SIM is inserted correctly. The adviser will be able to see the phone number allocated to the SIM in that phone (which, I suspect, won't be linked to an account or have any PAYG credit on it). He/she will then be able to get your old number ported across to your new phone (meaning that you'll then have some credit to make calls).
