2 questions:
1. Why has BT email recently (over the past 6 months or so) randomly spammed emails from trusted contacts e.g. my daughter + 2 other friends with whom I frequently exchange emails?
2. What can I do about it as it's more than annoying?

BT isn't sending you spam. Someone who has hacked into your contacts list is.

Once someone has accessed your contacts list, they'll be able to send out spam (not only to you but to others as well) that looks as if it's come from the people on that list. They'll also be able to send out spam which apparently comes from your own address. It's too late to do anything about it, other than to warn everyone on your contacts list that it's likely to happen. (An AB member, Anaxcrosswords, had his email contacts list hacked several years ago. My address was on that list and every few months I receive an email which appears to come from him but which actually only has a dodgy-looking link inside it. It's too late for him to be able to do anything about it).

Buenchico - the emails in question are definitely from my daughter and the 2 friends as they refer to specific questions/comments from me and contain no dodgy links/obscene language or whatever!
I'm lost now!

So what do these emails contain then? If they're normal family messages, etc, where does the 'spam' bit come in?

What I mean is that BT is randomly putting emails from these people straight into the Spam folder rather than downloading them to my inbox. Therefore I don't see them until they email me again saying "Why haven't you replied to the email I sent you 2 days ago?"
Keep an eye on your Spam box and mark any relevant ones as Not Spam. Future emails from the same address should then go straight into your inbox.

Jackdaw - I've already done that several times over!
So Bt are not spamming emails, they are marking emails as spam. You can prevent this by adding your daughter's and friend's email addresses to the "safe senders" list. At the following link, scroll down to "using the safe senders feature".

I've been to that link and gone to settings on my BT email (using IE and Chrome) - there is no "safe sender" option on the drop-down menu! It only tells me how to block emails!
apparently its in settings, safe senders, add. Adding the email addresses there should keep them out of your spam folder.
Do you use an e-mail client on your computer. It may be there than you want to make safe sender changes.

As for why it's happening, maybe they are on an untrusted IP address or something similar.
sorry, drop down under your email address top right of page....settings, mail, safe senders, add.

OG - emails in question never make it to my email client which is Thunderbird because the BT server puts them in Spam! And why is it happening to certain people randomly and infrequently? And I keep saying that when I go to settings there is NO "safe sender" tab!
So didn't Woofgang's suggestion help?
Question Author
No - see my previous comment!
did you do settings, mail, under your email address? Its not directly under settings
I don't but you are sounding frustrated with the suggestions . Good luck
Question Author
Phew - got there eventually via BT livechat who agreed there was no menu for "safe senders" on my laptop. S/he typed me through "filters" which I've done and saved. Hope this will remove the issue until BT picks on a different regular emailer - I can't put all my contacts in filters obviously!
