Windows phones? Do they still exist? Ruddy 'eck! Even Bill Gates doesn't use one!

Microsoft are also telling all users of Windows 10 Mobile that it's time to move on to an iOS or Android device:

However, while you're still stuck in the stone age, it's worth remembering that there's no point in having a messaging app if your friends haven't got the same one. Therefore (Facebook) Messenger would seem to be your obvious choice, simply because it's pre-installed on most phones anyway:

(You don't need to be signed up to Facebook to use Messenger)

Sorry you lost me at ruddy eck
It's not so much that Microsoft have removed WhatsApp, as WhatsApp have stopped supporting obsolescent operating systems (this also means older versions of Android and IOS).
As both Messenger and WhatsApp are owned by Facebook, it's a fair bet that Messenger will soon follow suit.
Maybe it's time to get a new phone...

Will maybe do without it altogether. I just get used to liking something and it disappears. The word Technophobe comes to mind?

PS Buenchico thanks for being so helpful. NOT!
^^^ If you'd bothered to read to the end of my post, you'd have seen that I suggested the only logical alternative (because it's the only one that your friends will almost certainly have on their phones already).

However, as TheChair points out, it's possible that Messenger will cease to be supported on Windows Mobile in the near future too.
I really don't know why you seem to find Chris' answer so impenetrable. Microsoft have abandoned their Windows phone product. This happens all the time in business, not just software, e.g. you'd have difficulty trying to buy a brand new Volkswagen Beetle straight off the production line these days, even in Mexico.

Do yourself a huge favour and upgrade your handset to an Android device, something like a Samsumg Galaxy. Not only are they miles better than Windows phones; all your favourite apps will work, usually much better than they ever did on the Windows phone.

My apps work perfectly fine on this phone and it’s a far better camera than anybody else’s that I know. All my friends have WhatsApp on their phones and I use it a lot to txt my niece in Italy. All I wanted was some advice on a different app to use not a lecture on which phone I should use! For your information I have used my partners Samsung galaxy and hated it. Couldn’t get used to how it worked or anything about it. I have had Nokia phones all the time since they first came out. I take a lot of photos and send them by WhatsApp so I don’t need to be jeered at by people!!
I'm sure no-one is jeering at you. You asked for advice on another app which you could use on your Nokia Microsoft Windows phone instead of WhatsApp which has recently been discontinued by Microsoft. There are none. Your Windows phone will soon stop working altogether for anything other than phone calls.

So stick with it or don't, you know. The sooner you move, the easier it will be.
Viber, surely is very similar, a good alternative.
allgram.
In Japan LINE is used more than Whassup. We also have it installed to comunicate with them. But as has been said, your contacts will have to have the same app. You can't use one to text another app. Buy yourself an iPhone is the best idea.

Definitely time to move away from a windows phone: their only mark on civilisation seems to have been to ruin all versions of windows from 8 onwards for other users.
I guess it was microsoft’s midlife crisis ...
If all your contacts use WhatsApp then you’ll surely need to keep using that?

Thanks Allgram, Samuraisan and Ichkeria . All I wanted was some polite advice. Can’t afford an I phone . It wasn’t that I found Buenchicos message impenetrable and Yes I did read to the end of the message but I found the message to be sarcastic and rude which is why I said he’d lost me at ruddy eck. I’m not good with technology and don’t want to change my phone so will have to see what I can do. At the moment I have managed to get WhatsApp back by uninstalling it and reinstalling it so once that’s gone I will probably get rid altogether. Don’t need all the hassle. Thanks again
