Your Favourite Holiday.....
80 Answers
What has been your favourite holiday so far, and why? I was really thinking about this and I think it was when we rented an old farmhouse in France. It had a small swimming pool, and backed onto woodland. We would walk into the local village for groceries, fresh bread, local wine! The weather was baking and we would either do a BBQ in the evening, or go to one of the many amazing local restaurants. There was also a river nearby with a picnic area, and you could hire boats. Just magical........

To visit a different racecourse every day (where possible, of course). Me and a friend did 10 meetings in the 14 available days - 4 were at Doncaster, culminating in the St Leger. We did quite well financially, so much so that we doubled our stakes during the 2nd week. On the days we weren't racing, we were in the King's Arms on the banks of the Ouse - the one that suffers each time the river floods it's banks. Holiday of a lifetime.
So many for different reasons
Sheer bliss - staying in a cottage in normandy that backed onto the beautiful white sands, fresh croissants every day, lovely coffee and just me and hubby.
Lively holiday - Vegas every damn time
Fav repeat holiday - Islay for the craic, the peace, the company and the friendliness of the island

Best family holidays - cycling in France; get your selves to the first hotel, off you go on your bikes to the next hotel and they've brought all your luggage on so no hassle; could cycle as little as 15km up to 45km a day through wonderful countryside; we did 3 - The Berry region, the Chateau of the Loire and Brittany - superb.
Best awe inspiring, full on holiday has to be Tokyo - it has everything.

No, Smow, the fixtures haven't really afforded the opportunity. We were fortunate that year in that there were so many meetings in and around the York area during the 14 days. Obviously been to a few tracks since but not en masse, as it were. I think my next racing holiday will be either the Glorious Goodwood meeting or even the Arc De Triomphe.
Smow, we weren't a cycling family at all; just fancied doing it and really enjoyed it. The three of us just took ourselves off, map in hand and made sure we hit a village around lunch time for re-fuelling; there would be others doing the same holiday but you didn't have to cycle with them - all to suit yourselves.
My favourite holiday now is my repeat twice a year to Menorca. All day on beautiful beaches, in and out of crystal sea swimming and snorkelling, driving the island and eating out most evenings in the lovely old capital Ciutadella. No other holiday quite beats that. As a teen though favourite was a family log cabin holiday in the Aberdovey area of N Wales. Lovely walks, a boat trip, swimming in freezing mountain streams, picking and eating our own samphire, a visit to the very weird Portmeirion and best of all flirting with the other teenage boys staying round the pool and clubhouse in the evening.
I've enjoyed all my holidays. I think it's about the company you have.
One year we went to Cyprus with our friends. They booked a 5* hotel....I wasn't paying those prices!! So I found a villa. It had an on site pool and restaurant plus a local shop. The 5* guests spent more time at our villa than at their hotel .
I love a bargain. They spent about 2k...I spent £200. Brilliant! :-)
When I went to Thailand we got a beach side hut...£5 a night and they did your washing and ironing. Brilliant.
I want to go back to Greece though.

Difficult to say really. Most of them are good but when I was 18 and got my first proper job I saved up madly and went to Kenya on safari and the Seychelles with my sister. Seeing all the animals up close and personal when I had only ever seen them on the telly was amazing and that trip had a big impact on me.
