Rather a puzzle..... I use parcel services regularly but since having my new Samsung tablet, I find it won't let me enter The EXACT weight. Normally, this doesn't bother me, but today I want to enter 4,7kg but because I can only enter 5, it pushes the cost up dramatically.

What do you think the problem is?

Can you not enter a full-stop?
You show a comma, 4,7kg, it is normally a full stop.

Thats just a typo Donny. I meant 4.7 kg

Sorry, I probably shouldn't have mentioned decimal point. What I mean is that I can't put parts of KGs in. Examples 4.7 2.8 3.4 etc etc. The dot is there on the keypad which pops up, but when no press it, nothing happens.
Is there a change on how the website you are using appears on your new tablet?
Or is there a problem with being able to type 'from' your tablet?
Can you not just put in 4kg?
On my Kindle I have to put the first part of the number in, then go back to the alphabetical keyboard to use the full-stop and then go back to the numerical keyboard to put the second part of the number. It is annoying having to fiddle around but it works.

Wolf, that sounds like you get the same problem. I shall have to try what you do.

Corby, that's what i would normally do to get around this problem, but on this occasion, doing this would push me up to a much higher price.

Jack, its the latter. The website looks the same, but I think it's the Samsung keypad that's the issue. Sometimes when i look at what I've typed it's complete nonsense. For instance when i just typed "it's" it came out as 28th. It's really dreadful. Also there's a delay in the letters appearing or when I delete.
Can you enter 4700 grams?
That's a very neat solution if it works.
Why not try a different keyboard? There're loads of alternatives in the Google Play Store.
You said 5kg pushes the price up so I can't see how putting in 4kg is worse than 4.7kg.
Horseshoes would then be underpaying for the parcel, that could create it's own problems.
Would it be possible to create a document elsewhere full of numbers and their decimal places and then cut and paste them where necessary?
(I don't have a tablet and have no idea if a C&P option works on them...)
Parcel companies are only interested in the weight to the nearest Kilo.No need for the decimal point, just round it to the nearest whole number.
Eddie- you may have missed this from the OP: "but today I want to enter 4.7kg but because I can only enter 5, it pushes the cost up dramatically. "
Also I use a lot of parcel companies and I have never found one that did not have a range for sizes. Under 1 Kilo. 1 to 2 Kg , 2 to 5 Kg , 5 to 10Kg . For example. If in doubt round up to the nearest Kilo 3.6 > 4 Kg rather than down.
^^ As said couriers only go by whole Kilos. So if it's 4.7 put 5 and pay, or risk putting it as 4 and getting an extra charge added. But I have NEVER had a courier actually check the weight of a parcel, where the Post Office always weigh them, as the weighing machine is connected to the price ticket / label printer.

Thank you all for your help.

I cant put grams in as an option, that was a great idea though. I'm sure it's something to do with the samsung keyboard.

Looked up'ALT Code' for decimal point, it's alt46, tried it, it looks exactly like a full stop and in the same position, so just use a full stop instead.
