If your new drive is showing in "My Computer", chances are that it is working. However, data will not generally automatically save there - you need to make a concious decision to direct the data there.

People often keep 1 drive for their OS and possibly programs, and the other for their documents. It is possible, for instance, to change the physical location of "My Documents" to another drive.

Try saving something to your new drive, if it works then you will need to take action to ensure that the data you want there goes there. I wouldn't recommend moving any existing programs, but moving "My Documents" should be painless!

If you have hard drive as a slave inside your PC then you do not need to "share it", it will already be available to your PC, as the D drive probably.

Sharing is only used for networks. If you have 2 PCs in your house and you want one PC to be able to look at the data on another PC you need to share the disk or directory first. This does not apply in your case.
