I've been advised to changed to Firefox from IE for security reasons. So far all is well except on AB replying to a Q I wanted to either embolden a word or underline it - but the whole thing is missing. Is this something that happens to all Firefox users - or is there a way to make it reappear?

I use Firefox and have no problems
The text editor relies on an activeX plugin on IE. As well as making the text editor appear, it gives the browser lots of other features such as Windows Updates being able to install software on your PC, other sites being able to scan your PC for viruses etc.
Firefox is considered safer partly because sites can't have this type of control over your PC by default - some sites try to execute malicious code on your PC via activeX.

You can either try to activate/install this feature on Firefox or download a plugin for it which lets you right click on a link and choose "Open Link Target in IE" and use IE just for certain pages.

Thank you steve, that sounds exactly the answer I was after ...but Firefox won't let me open the Mozdev page for security reasons - and when I found it elsewhere Windows doesn't recognise the file extension.

Please bear with me as I've only had Firefox for two days and am finding things a little confusing at the moment!
once you find a page you want to install an extension for under mozilla, highlight the main domain name of the site you're at: here it'll be theanswerbank.co.uk. copy this bit of text to the clipboard, and goto tools->options->web features-> see box saying allow sites to install software.. make sure is clicked, click allowed sites next to it, and then allow the site you want to install from.
