The simplest way to fix this is to buy a new universal remote control unit. (About a fiver in Asda). Keep the old remote in case you ever have to re-tune the TV to different channels.

Probably a dry joint inside - you need a friendly technician who'll solder it for you - or do as Buenchico suggests.
