Here's a full list of instructions:
https://malwaretips.com/blogs/dllhost-exe-32-com-surrogate-removal/
They include using a program that I'm unfamiliar with (ESET Poweliks Cleaner) but, as Malwaretips.com is a highly-respected source of reliable information, I'd have no worries about downloading and running it.

However Malwaretips.com does sometimes go for a bit of 'overkill' in its instructions and my own instinct would be to try simply running the free version of Malewarebytes Anti-Malware (which is included in those instructions) on its own first. If you've not already got it, you can download it from here:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/
(NB: At the end of the installation process you'll encounter a pre-ticked box offering you a free trial of the 'Premium' version. Click to remove that tick before proceeding!)

Have tried that no joy. Am now running a full Norton scan. There is a box saying COM Surragate has stopped working and am virtually unable to control the computer. Am using my wife's I pad to reply.
If you still have problems check out:-

Also, might need to boot to Windows Safe Mode and try scanning from there.

Trouble is it is very difficult to do anything just a spinning wheel all the time.
What version of Windows do have?

Try pressing Crtl,Alt,Del key combination to bring up Task manager (if it will let you!) and take a look at the running processes to see if you can force close any that are using high CPU.

How do I access theWindows Safe Mode
Question Author
I forgot to say I have Windows 7 64 bit. Have tried a Windows restore no luck. Did the cent, alt.del but the only programme showing was COM Surrogate.
To access Safe Mode, restart your Computer and keep pressing the F8 key continuously and it should eventually display an options screen where you can select 'Safe Mode with Networking'.

'Safe Mode' will load default Windows system components where you can login with your usual Windows account credentials and enable you to run a Malwarebytes full scan of your Windows Disk system. See the 'F8' option section discussed in:-

https://blog.malwarebytes.org/online-security/2015/01/safe-mode/
You may need a little more than a standard Norton scan - google Norton Power Tools - if the first one doesnt sort it the second will.

I have Norton on my computer so am now running the Power eraser it's been going for over a hour so far" Tried to get the safe mode up no success

I somehow have got rid of the Com Surragate box BUT now the computer is now pulsing on/off including when I am using Word etc HELP I am going spare.
Recommend that you try starting up in Safe Mode and running a full Malwarebytes scan as per my previous post..

Your previous attempt at startup into Safe via pressing the F8 key may have failed if the F8 key was not pressed at correct timing of Windows starting up. Try again from power-on and keep pressing the F8 key repeatedly in quick succession.

Malwarebytes available from:
