Chances are that this is Malware, not a virus. Download Malwarebytes from here https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Don't click the 'buy' tab, just the 'download' one. Then run a full scan. Should clear it.

Thank you I'll give that a try and report back in a few days. Ironically, while typing this my screen twice switched to what I described in my post. Hope your suggestion clears it up. Thanks again.

Hi

My PC continues to get highjacked when I am online. It is happening every few minutes and sometimes several times a minute. Below is an example of the text that appears when the rover.ebay.com web address suddenly appears in the brouser.
I have ran a malwarebytes scan but no success. Any further help appreciated.

You are not alone and adware cleaner has worked for some. It's a trustworthy site and I use the awwcleaner myself, so I know it won't cause any problems. Download the FREE program

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/?rha=1
google norton rescue tools - run the first one - run the 2nd if that doesnt do it

What is your computer operating system and which web browser are you using?
Question Author
My PC is running Windows 8.1 and my browser is Firefox. Thanks to all for suggestions
First, try resetting your Firefox Browser to default settings. Info on how to do that can be found at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings

If that does not sort the problem, then download and save the latest Firefox version installation package from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?utm_source=firefox-com&utm_medium=referral

then, uninstall your current Firefox browser and run the downloaded installation package to perform a new installation of Firefox.

If you have any Bookmarks that you want to keep, then export and save them to a file and after the re-installation import back to Firefox. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer
and
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/import-bookmarks-html-file

Hopefully that will remove the problem.
Have you by any chance installed the Ebay toolbar?

Uninstall this and re-start your pc and see what happens. Also, block pop up boxes in Firefox via Options/Contents

My thanks to everyone for the suggestions, which I'll be trying later. I'll report back once I've done this

Just an update on this

I have tried all the suggestions, including installing adwcleaner which HC4361 suggested. Initially I thought it had worked and to a degree it has in that my web broser is being affected less, but is still happening. Just a question for HC, should it have installed an icon on my desktop so I can run it whenever I want? I can't see anything, and not sure where to find it if I want to run it again. Any further suggestions appreciated before I call in a local techie. Thanks
