Should I choose one with DivX? My shortlist has two, one with DivX and one without. What would be the advantage of paying more for DivX (excuse my ignorance!).

Not sure if I would pay more for one with DIVX. Depends if you think you may use the facility - by this I mean encoding your own stuff and copying it to CD or DVD to watch. You will need a PC for this and it takes time to encode it to the new format. The advantage is that you can record about 15 hours of video in DIVX format on a DVD and so not have to carry quite so many discs around with you.
Of course a lot of the file sharing sites like Limewire have programs and films and tv shows encoded in DIVX to as its a lot smaller download, so if you use them then by all means go for the DIVX player.

Thanks, Khana, thatt's exactly the information I needed.  I just want the player to watch the odd DVD on trips and to look at photos on CD, so DivX would seem to be an unnecessary expense.
