{Page \*mergeformat} Help!

In MS WORD 2007 I keep getting the following:

{PAGE \*MERGEFORMAT}

It occurs when I try to insert page numbers or when I am trying to insert a web page link. It happens in both new and old documents. I think it is something to do with the "toggle" function but I cant stop it occurring! Can you help me stop the blasted thing?

Can only guess. Do you have a setting set to show codes ? Worth checking. This shows on the screen I take it. How does it print ?

If this is in headers and footers try Alt + F9
