every time I try to watch a video news item on the BBC news I get a blank screen with a very small square in the top left corner that has small coloured shapes inside it, and on the screens header bar the following message "Your security settings do not allow web sites to use activex controls installed on your computer' This page may not display correctly" I have tried turning off Norton internet security and Norton anti-virus but to no avail. can any one assist?. I used to be able to watch the shorts a while ago.

If I'm not mistaken this is normal in WindowsXP service pack 2 onwards if you're using Internet Explorer. You can usually click in that space and choose "allow ActivX control to run" or you can simply lower your browsers security settings by going to "Tools", "Internet Options" and then clicking thr Security tab.

For general home use on a system that is protected by up to date antivirus and a firewall, your security settings need only be set to "Medium". Anything higher and you are compromising functionality for security unnecessarily.
