Best Deal For Short Term Mobile Phone?

I have a friend visiting from Europe and was wondering what the best way would be to equip her with a mobile while she is here, assuming using her usual phone will attract extraordinary charges if used here.

I was toying with getting a PAYG SIM card for one of my old contract phones, would this work? Would I still need to go through the faff of unlocking even if I use the same provider?

If you use the same provider as original it wont need unlocking, it should just work.
if your old phone is out of contract, it may just automatically be unlocked.

Thanks, I'll have a look at the PAYG route then.

I thought that a contract phone would work with the same provider on a PAYG deal but wasn't sure.

I didn't realise that phones could spontaneously unlock, I will see if we have any other network SIMs knocking around and experiment.
You can buy a new phone for £4,99 just needs a £10 top up.

I'm being tightfisted! All the while I have a perfectly good smart phone in the drawer I see no point in buying another phone.
