I haven't got a clue where to search for this, maybe someone knows...

I have astigmatism and would like to have a prescription lens made up for my right eye, unmounted and un-ground for any spectacle frame.
It's so I can make up a prescription eyepiece for my SLR camera. I have made one up before with the lens from the R/H side of an older pair of specs I had and it worked really well, sadly it worked loose and got lost.

I had my usual eye test at Specsavers today and enquired there but they refuse to do it for one reason or another - the optician there was mystified as to why not and advised me to look elsewhere, she seemed to find my idea rather innovative (well it is!)

TIA for any advice.

Do you mean a monocle?
cant you just do the same? Get a pair of glases, made by glases direct or something (they are very cheap), put the right handed prescription in as both sides and have 2 to play with?
Most towns have 'Dispensing Opticians. That is firms which are legally authorised to make-up prescriptions which have been issued by Opticians who are qualified to examine eyes. Consequently one could go to say 'Boots the Chemist' and, having had one's eyes tested, just ask for a prescription which could be dispensed a lot cheaper elsewhere. A bit like going to a Doctor who will examine you and then issue a prescription which is dispensed by a Pharmacist.

Pump into the internet for 'Dispensing Opticians in ( whatever is your nearest town )' and see what results you get, and take it from there.

Hans.
Just curious. Lenses for astigmatism consist of a spherical component and a cylindrical component. For them to work, the cylindrical component has to be aligned at the correct angle for your eye. How did you achieve this with the lens you made before?

Thanks for the answer so far - looks like a few options to go on.

The Chair, I cut it to shape and glued it to the (removable) eyepiece frame - the only problem was that it only worked in 'landscape', if I rotated the camera to 'portrait' it would be all screwy unless I rotated my head with it!

As you have astigmatism do you have prisms in your lenses?
Thanks for your reply Answerprancer. I asked because I have severe astigmatism, and have just about given up on photography as a result.
