Firefox is, without a doubt, the most popular browser among the regular contributors to this site (and it's what I use). I don't know about Opera but I use Chrome and find it the fastest. Firefox is pretty good too.
More or less anything is better than IE ...

Opera is quite quick and good on resource usage.

Download it & have a play - you can always go back to IE (or Chrome, or Firefox)

Opera is little-used by people here and by Windows users in general; it's more commonly associated with the Android operating system. However its well-respected and has won several awards.

Thank you, all, for your kind replies.
I have used Opera but in the distant past. I think the advice to try it and see what you think, is best.

I use maxthon, the Chinese can spy on me as much as they like.
I used opera for a long time a while back but these days use Chrome. To be honest I don't notice much of a difference. I expect the same is true of most browsers, at least for most users -- the differences are often fairly subtle and if you basically use the internet for news/ email/ AB then one browser is just as good as the other.

One issue with Opera is that it's fairly niche and, if I remember correctly, sometimes reads information in a different way that websites aren't designed to cope with. On occasion that means that some websites don't display properly in Opera (or something along those lines). It's a relatively minor issue though.
