Bare with me i,m third party to this,my nephew,s monitor has gone blank he has checked it out ie power on and leads crossed checked, the story goes that he was trying to clear the hard drive because he thinks he has a virus and now this is the problem.

Has anyone got a clue what might be the problem?

This might sound too obvious but could the computer have hibernated? If the power light[s] are on, try holding down the 'power on' button for about ten seconds or so and it might start up again.

Thanks for last two replies,cables i,m told are ok, power supply appears ok because the computer itself is making all the usual noises plus the monitor has been swapped.
Have you tried linking it up to a different monitor to see if its the pc or the monitor thats at fault ?

The virus checking may have just been coincidence, its possible that the graphics card has become lose and just needs re-inserting securely. (make sure that if you do this, your pc is unplugged and you have earthed yourself before hand to stop static damaging the card)

The last thing I would say is that, is the lead plugged in to the right port on your pc ?. A lot of pc's have onboard graphics with a monitor output and at a later stage a propper graphics card may have been installed which will also have a monitor output.
