Just two different image formats. Bitmaps are usually of higher quality & take up a lot of memory space. JPEG is a common format for image distribution, a file saved in this format can be compressed to save on memory storage space e.g. to make it easier for e-mailing or uploading to the web etc. Generally the higher the amt of compression used, the worse the image looks but you would be hard pressed to tell the difference at lower levels of compression. Paint programs such as Photoshop or Paint shop pro allow conversion of Bitmaps to jpegs at varying levels.
