This might sound a stupid question, but I've got an Evesham Evolution PC that I bought back in November 2002, but I'm not sure if I've got an Ethernet connection. According to the manual this PC has 2 Modem Line Jacks and 1 Firewire, are either of these Ethernet connections?

The Ethernet connection uses an RJ45 (phone type) socket and plug.

OK thanks for that kempie, I guess that means I don't have an ethernet connection then????
You should be able to buy a card for a few quid. I paid a fiver for mine, brand new.

Where do you get these cards from d0gsb0dy and do they just plug ino a PCI slot??
Have a look at the back of the PC where everything plugs into. If it has this ethernet connection then there should be a space for something the same shape as a dial up modem connection, only bigger.

Also, look at "Device Manager" if using Windows and look for "Network Adaptors". Anything listed there?

As mentioned, they're dead cheap if you don't have one.
Also, from looking at the pictures here, you can see that it just plugs into a spare PCI slot

any PC store on the high street or online will sell them for a few quid

Thanks stevie21, I've looked in Device Manager as you suggested and under Network Adaptors there is:

Speedtouch (My Modem)

1394 Net Adaptor (???)

Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection (???)

Doesn't look like I've got an Ethernet connection, so I'll buy the Lan Card, just hope it's easy to install!!

Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection

That sounds like a LAN Card to me. You can't see a connection for this at the back of the PC?

It may have question marks next to it in Device Manager just because it's not connected to anything...

It says it's working properly...
I wasn't sure if you had added the question marks in this post as you didn't know what the device was or copied them from Device Manager.

Anyway, sounds like you have what you need.

Sorry stevie21, I added the question marks because I didn't know what the devices were, anyway I think I'm all sorted now so thanks again for your help! :-)
