I had to reinstall Windows XP today, and since doing so, a message keeps appearing every 5-10 minutes. It says:

Message from System to User on 03/08/2005 22:36:46. Err Code 92834. Errors have been detected on this computer. A scan must be done immediately or this computer will have the following systems: Slow performance, error messages, and many other problems. Visit regscan.net.

They vary slightly, but another says that there's a problem with the Windows Registry, or similar. Someone I know says its rubbish, and need to do a scan with some program that detects spyware, as this is what it is. Is this right? anyone know how I can get rid of this message for good? Thanks so much, its driving me mad already....

Search online for how to stop the "messenger service" or wait until someone here gives you step by step instructions.

I'd check to see if that fixes it before attempting any spyware programs, although it's a good idea to have these installed and used anyway.

are you saying the problem happened iimmediately after installing or after you had been online ?

Mattk, it was after connecting to the internet, although this was the first thing I did to check it worked OK, so assume it's internet related. I just found it strnage that it happened immediately after reinstalling.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/learnmore/stopspam.mspx This link will help you out, is a problem with the XP programme. It sorted all my problems. Good luck

Thanks very much all, have just done that dabees, so fingers crossed! =)

This happened to me too. I ignored it, downloaded all windows updates, installed and ran spyware and antivirus and it stopped. Not sure which of the above stopped it, but it did stop.

Oh, good point Hammer : Microsoft's antispyware stops the messenger service as well. While I'm not claiming that's definitely the culprit, it is something that generally needs turned off.
Plus you'll get a good antispyware program too.
