Acer is a good make. I should know because I did have one and I found it really good.

Tell me, has your laptop at any stage actually started.? Anyway it doesn't really matter if it has or hasn't, because you do appear to have a case to go back to PC World and raise issue under its automatic 12months guarantee.

Take it back to PC World and have them look at it and decide if a replacement is needed don't let them send it back to ACER as it will be away with them for a little while but as it is Christmas it may even be longer it is normally 15 working days.
Definitely take it back to PCworld asap.
Don't accept a repair - you've had it less than a week. A full refund or replacement should be offered,

Sincere thanks to you all. I am rather red face because the laptop started up when i pluged it in to the mains this.morning.It then done some configuring of updating.By the way it is a Acer Aspire Windows 8.Hopefuly it will behave. Thanks again. Best wishes for the season. georgic
Ah ...windows updates !

I am using a ACER Aspire One 722. Its quite a small little jobby but it still has a 11 inch screen. I love it. Its not as fast as my desk top but I only use it on a dongle, when I am in my caravan here in Cornwall.

But I agree with everyone here. The difficulty on start-up may just be down to Windows updating itself. But if it keeps faffing about, go straight back to PC World.....Take a Thermos and some sandwiches and stand your ground !
