What is the benefit of using an app e.g. for a supermarket, bank etc rather than browsing the internet and viewing a website? I have a Nexus 7. Thanks.

Convenience probably. You should be able to go there on a click, and get to your account details just as quickly. Possible to add other functions too depending on the supermarket/bank/whatever's choice.
Apps are designed for tablets and smartphones.

Many websites don't have mobile versions so it is hard to read a "normal" website on a tablet or smartphone.
Like VHG says, the apps are designed specifically and are far easier to read and use than the normal website.

I have a nexus 7 and use the apps for people like Tesco, Ocado, M&S, Argos, Amazon etc. Far easier than trying to use the website.
The banking app on my Nexus is far, far better than the website.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have been using apps but wondered about the difference. I have noticed they are quicker to access.
