You about? I noticed a bite on my arm yesterday and didn't think anything of it.. Went to bed and had a restless night with it. Very swollen and red, warm to the touch and around the two small bites I'm getting a number of small blisters... (Photo links below). I called at my local trusted Pharmacist this morning and he gave me 12 antihistamine tablets and said to take 2 today, he seemed to think it was OK but the redness and swelling is spreading. Its weeping, a bit painful and hard to the touch.Any Ideas would be very welcome.

Hi !mazie.........that looks nasty and can i also see in the picture some redness just below your armpit? Take Ibuprofen 600mgms for the pain tonight and make sure that you see the doctor in the morning as you may well need antibiotics.

Take Ibuprofen 600mgms for the pain tonight and make sure that you see the doctor in the morning as you may well need antibiotics.
My advanced medical training (hypochondriac) leads me to agree with doctor Sqad.

That looks very nasty and painful, I hope that it clears up quickly and without any problem.

Thanks mate...Nah, thats my bingo wings ;o)

Will do. (I do hate Doctors though)

Much appreciated.

Thanks wolf....I didn't feel anything bite me and there appeared to be just a couple of small bumps when I first noticed it...... The blistering is worrying me a bit.
Ouch looks nasty. Most likely spider bite. You usually see two punctures and they can get very infected because of what they inject to digest their prey.

Thanks Brinjal...Never even consider a spider bite !
Does look sore, get sorted soon Mazie.x

Will do Mamya. x I'm hoping it'll be a bit better by the morning
Hi mazie - I agree with sqad - the blistering and spreading looks nasty, and could well be cellulitis.
I disagree that it can wait until tomorrow, and I would seek more urgent attention from whatever out of hours medical service you have.
Good luck.

Hi slaney...... I'm sure it's a bite though. I noticed it midday yesterday...I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow xx
Cellulitis can follow an insect bite Mazie - the earlier is is treated the better, IV antibiotics may be necessary if there is delay.
My advice stands.

Thanks again slaney...I have none of those symptoms apart from the localised redness etc... I haven't even got a lot of pain just a feeling of discomfort and itching...And it hurts a little when I put it on the table to do my crosswords.... apart from the forearm I feel fine... But thank you so much for your concern xxx
It being warm is one reason to keep a extra eye out though.

I got a nasty bout of cellulitis from a bite, most likely some kind of mites or ticks from pigeons.
Question Author
Thanks eve....I'm keeping an eye on it and the heat seems to be subsiding.
Put a cold pack on it..both me and my sister react to insect bites like that but have very rarely needed antiobiotics. I tend to take antihistamine the moment I first spot a bite, it prevents a lot of swelling.
Question Author
Hi Robinia...It feels a little better.. So fingers crossed it'll be a little better tomorrow...The heat and swelling seems to be subsiding :o) Thank you for responding x
draw a line around the red areas, if it gets bigger, could be cellulitis, id not wait until tomorrow,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but only my opinion.
As someone who has suffered from cellulitis I say get it sorted asap!

Thanks folk.... really do appreciate your comments.... I'm pleased to say it's easing off and feels so much better...Just a bite that's gone a bit wrong...BUT, I will, if I have to go to the Doc's tomorrow. Thank you all again, much appreciated. xxxx

Just got back from the Doc's and it is infected. He's given me 500mg of Flucloxacillin and I have to go back next Wednesday. He said if it gets any worse I have to back before then. Thanks for all your help yesterday. xxx
