If your recycle bin at home (the one we leave out weekly for the council to collect) is ever so slightly over full (i.e brimming over the edge of the bin, yet not falling out), do they reserve the right to refuse a collection??

Cheeky gits havent taken ours this morning and took everybody elses. We are talking about 3 tins of beans and several lager cans on top of an already full bin, thats all!!

All councils have different ideas on this subject and will instruct their contractors accordingly.
As it doesn't have a lid, it can be stacked up sky high! They still have to take it.
Maybe there were some items in there that were non metal?

We bag and keep anything that won't fit in the bin until they have emptied it, we then put it out for the next collection. I currently have a stack of cardboard that won't fit in the already full bin so am keeping it to one side.
Ours are now every two weeks and say they won't collect unless the lid is closed flat. Unfortunately you get exactly the same bins, whether there is one person or twenty in your house.
As I've said, they're all different. Our recycling is in a full-size green wheelie bin with lid.
ours wont take it if you have put the wrong recycling in it, or if the lid is slightly lifted
Ours take limited recycling stuff, only the non recyclable rubbish bin is subject to overfilling rules, I never seen them implement it though unless someone is taking the proverbial.
...and they take EVERYTHING in it - glass, plastic, card, paper ,metal etc etc.
I only use a bin for glass. The rest I put in clear bags. The boxes aren't big enough for plastics/tins.
I find that I have to flatten everything which is time consuming but it ensures that the recycling gets collected

I only put out what we always do. The only difference being it was slightly full!
Put the excess in a carrier bag.

Will do from now on. As a family of 3 our bin is ususally 2/3rds full at most anyway. My partner has gone to the recycling centre and bottle bank bless her!
some councils are a bit precious about overflow, even enough to raise the lid slightly is enough to be rejected, have you looked at your local council website, they normally have FAQ's about recycling.
Ours have been known to refuse to take over-full recycling bins. (They collect every two weeks here).
No glass allowed in ours. We always use the bottle bank.
i put the brown bin out the other week (first time in years) they either didn't empty it because they couldn't believe their eyes (neither could i frankly) or because there was one long trailing plant type thing or spider leg hanging over the edge

i rang them and they came the next day and emptied it
I presume you mean the boxes? If they get over filled the bin men often spill some of the contents and they haven't time to be picking it up.
I think they can refuse to take refuse (odd sentence!) when its overfull.

Ours are quite good with the recycling and will take additional stuff like cardboard boxes etc, if left out beside the recycling bin.

I would still complain though.
