Help! Siemens Handset

Can someone please tell me how to activate the + key on my Siemens Gigaset AL 140/145 handset so I can ring abroad? It's on the same key as the 0 (Zero). I'm sure it's something obvious but the instruction booklet's a nightmare to get to grips with. I've tried pressing it twice but just get two zeros. Tried pressing and holding it down and the same. Thanks.

Not sure but try pressing the # key then the 0. The # key toggles between text and number display.

Surely though two zeros is what is needed to phone abroad?
