I Can't Access Picasa?

I have no idea why but when I click to open my Picasa account the screen goes blank/black for a few seconds then opens again with a box saying

This application requires at least an 600 x 800 screen resolution and 16 bit colour. The page is extremely light and distorted until I click OK when it goes back to normal.

Any idea what I have done to it or how to access the program please.
